Hundreds of the nation’s top business leaders faced the cold last night, bunking down in sleeping bags and beanies for the annual Vinnies CEO Sleepout.
The event, held across Australia, aims to raise awareness and much-needed funds in support of the nation’s homeless services.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, there is more than 100,000 Australians currently experiencing homlessness, with one quarter of these under the age of 18.
While the industry leaders woke to a frosty June morning, wrapped in scarves and gloves, they did more than experience a harsh reality. Together, their combined efforts raised more than $3 million for those without a warm bed this winter.
CEO of Best & Less and Who’s Who entrant, Holly Kramer, came out on top after raising more than $148,000, with Dale Alcock from the ABN Group, a close second at $117,000.
“I'd personally like to thank all of the wonderful customers and employees of Best & Less, who have donated so generously to this great cause. I'm so proud to have the chance to work for such an amazing organization,” said Kramer in a statement published on the Vinnies website.
