Who’s Who in Australia entrant Wes Fleming was this week awarded the prestigious ‘Best in Show’ award at the 2013 Chelsea Flower Show.

Fleming, together with Melbourne landscape designer Phillip Johnson, created a winning design of an Australian-inspired ecological Billabong garden, complete with a viewing studio designed to mimic a waratah – a native Australian flower.

The dynamic duo and their team beat 14 other competing teams from across the world, with Queen Elizabeth paying tribute to the winning design.

The Australian reported Queen Elizabeth spent several minutes admiring the design, which, in addition to the unique waratah studio, featured kangaroo paws, bottle trees as well as a section boasting native Australian flowers.

The win, which coincides with Fleming’s choice to retire this year as a financial sponsor of Australian landscape design teams in the prestigious long-running competition, has been lauded by critics and media both here and overseas.

Upon being awarded the prize, Fleming’s team were believed to cheer and sing the chorus of ‘We Are Australian’.

“After nine amazing years working on The Chelsea Experience we feel we have met and in some ways exceeded our objectives for the project,” Fleming said in an article appearing in The Australian.

Wes Fleming is currently the Managing Director of Fleming Nurseries and has previously been the recipient of a number of national flower and garden show titles.

Congratulations We Fleming and team!
