Splendid Fair Steams Ahead
Goulburn NSW -
The Annual Steampunk Victoriana Fair will be as splendid as ever this year. Set in the grounds of the Goulburn Historic Waterworks on the banks of the Wollondilly River, the Fair will be held over two days - 19th & 20th October, 2019.
Steampunk is the genre that melds the industrial age with futuristic imaginations, or how the future might have been imagined in the past.
A full weekend of wonder and merriment has once again been planned. Beginning with a fire show by members of the Lieder Youth Theatre on Friday 18th, then continuing with all the excitement of the Fair on Saturday and Sunday.
Steampunk Victoriana Fair Coordinator, Julianne Salway, said “We are excited to see the Fair return over two days, year on year we see more and more people in attendance, which is amazing for both Goulburn and the Fair”.
“In order to keep up with the Fair’s ever-increasing popularity, we are always eager to add to the program. Some of this year’s additions include, The Crooked Fiddle Band, a presentation on Victorian history with a difference, sword fighting, hat making demonstrations and photographic workshops”, Julianne continued.
Saturday will see the official opening of the Fair incorporating the ever-popular costume parade, where patrons are encouraged to use their creative flair and dress up in character.
A grand time is guaranteed for all, with musket and canon firings from the 40th Regiment of Foot, horse and carriage rides, little trackless train rides, as well as Steampunk favourites - tea and parasol duelling.
Back by popular demand is the Steampunk-themed, 3 course, long table dinner which will be held on Saturday 19th at 6pm at St Saviour’s Cathedral Hall. The dinner will be catered for by Harvest Goulburn and will feature live music by ‘Scientists Behaving Badly’.
The entire family will be entertained on Sunday - Family Fun Day. An invention competition, pet parade, Sanjex Seratti’s - Vintage Wonders and Entertainment, grand tea pot racing and free face painting all day, will add to the curiosity and fun of the Fair.
A range of market stalls will be onsite selling Steampunk-themed items. Official Steampunk Victoriana Fair merchandise including shirts, mugs and bags will also be available.
Due to the expected influx of patrons at this year’s Fair and limited onsite parking, a park and ride service will be running from opposite the Goulburn Mulwaree Council car park at the bus stop in Clifford Street to the Goulburn Historic Waterworks. Use of the service is by donation and will run from 9.45am, and then every 30 minutes, with the last bus leaving the event at 3.45pm on Saturday and 2.45pm on Sunday.
When: Saturday 19th October, 10am-4pm and Sunday 20th October, 10am-3pm.
